Meet the Author: Carey Jones and John McCarthy
Husband and wife team of Carey Jones and John McCarthy walked us through a holiday classic: eggnog. They made this classic drink and talked about their newly released book, "Every Cocktail Has a Twist: Master 25 Classic Drinks and Craft More Than 200 Variations."
About the Book
Shake up your cocktail routine with this easy-to-follow guide from the critically acclaimed authors of "Be Your Own Bartender." You love your favorite libations, but sometimes you want something new that you know you’ll like. This user-friendly collection provides all the tools you need to create delicious new concoctions. It reconfigures 25 timeless tipples, from Bloody Marys, Daiquirís, and Manhattans to Margaritas, Negronis, and Old-Fashioneds. A few simple riffs will elevate your mainstays to a truly spirited experience. Want a Bloody Mary that tastes smoky and spicy? Make a Mezcal Maria, with tomatillo mix. Love the taste of horseradish? Try the Hail Mary, with horseradish-infused vodka. For a Negroni with rich flavor and a hit of caffeine, try the Night Watch, made with cold brew. To go lighter and skip the gin, stir up a Daytime Negroni with vodka, Cappelletti, and Lillet. Featuring handy diagrams, numerous variations for different palates, and surprising flavor combinations, remixing the classics has never been easier.

Decent lecture, but fuck this dude's NIMBY propaganda bullshit on reducing building dense housing in his neighborhood. He's welcome to support funding affordable starter homes instead if he likes homeownership, but he wouldn't like that either I'm sure.

Brancusi wasn’t making minimalist work, he was profoundly spiritual. His obsession was essence as a universal interweaving with the cosmos. He would have been appalled by the grandiosity of Koons and the cold emptiness of American minimalism. He equally wasn’t subverting as Duchamp was. Thank you for the video.

I have discovered that all but a few of the "star"-signed reviews in the 1844-46 New York "Tribune" were written by Mathew Franklin Whittier, younger brother of poet John Greenleaf Whittier. In this interview, at around 18:00, Ms. Pataki speaks of Margaret Fuller's relationship with Edgar Allan Poe, and also of her having written about Frederick Douglass. However, the review of Poe's "The Raven and Other Poems," in the Nov. 26, 1845 edition of the "Tribune" was written by Mathew, as was the June 10, 1845 review of "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave." Mathew, like his brother, was a long-time abolitionist. In fact, his active work for the abolitionist cause was one reason he had to keep an extremely low profile, even when Fuller printed eleven of his pieces as her own, in "Papers on Literature and Art." These are not merely assertions--I have evidence from over a decade of independent research to back them up.

I agreed with everything up until you started talking about the far-right being neo-nazis I'm pretty sure that the authoritarian left would be more likely to be closer to the Nazi considering Nazis were socialists and that's pretty much the Democratic party is full of socialist marxists and communists who hate America

This has left me with many more questions. Can emotions change a person's mental ability? Does a boy going through puberty go through a temp mind altering, mental disfunction? What are/were the criteria for mental deficiency? Understanding another's manner of thinking is totally up for interpretation. An introvert person can not understand an extrovert. A teenage boy can not understand an old woman going through menopause. But each would call the other "crazy". Both would at moments exhibit psychotic behavior and delusional thinking. While I do believe Elizabeth went through her ordeal. I find myself wanting to believe none of it was done in malace. But a lack of knowledge. A period in time where women were looked down on. Perhaps a male ego issue. Or something other. I would be curious to learn why men of this time period felt justified.

16:50 I mean...MAYBE ytou can liken the United States vs. the South as being akin to the U.S. vs. Japan. Maybe you can liken it to the U.S. vs. Vietnam, or the Soviet Union vs. Afghanistan (or the U.S. vs. Afghanistan for that matter). The conditions for victory were very much similar to Vietnam. The South was not really trying to conquer the North, but to make the war so costly in blood and treasure that "weak" and "cowardly" northerners would lose the will to fight. Perhaps the real difference is that they were not facing the North. They were facing the North, the border States that remained loyal, the West Virginians who abandoned Virginia, and a slew of Southers who remained in uniform fighting for the Union. And it was the coalition that ultimately won.
